Tucked just behind Trinity Hall on the California State University, Chico campus, the Chico State Rose Garden is one of those quiet spots that makes you slow down for a minute. In the late 1950s, what had once been the old campus cafeteria was transformed into a blooming garden filled with hundreds of rose bushes in every shade imaginable.

The garden was brought to life by a local horticulturalist who believed beauty should be shared beyond a backyard fence. Today, that vision still shows up each spring when the roses begin to bloom and the air feels just a little sweeter. It’s a favorite backdrop for grad photos, study breaks, and afternoon walks between classes.

Whether you’re touring campus, reliving your Wildcat days, or simply wandering through town, the Rose Garden is a peaceful pocket of color right in the heart of Chico. Just remember, these blooms are meant to be admired, not picked.
